The programme behind the change.
UNHCR’s Business Transformation Programme (BTP) brought changes to the systems and processes staff used for everyday work. Its cloud-based tools supported functions including planning, budgeting, finance and human resources.
Workday was the new HR platform within that wider change. For colleagues, the practical questions were immediate: where do I start, what do I need to do, and where can I get help?
My part was to make that transition understandable through the intranet: bringing launch information, first tasks, training and support into a coherent staff experience.
Connecting the programme to its audience.
I worked on the digital communications and content experience around the Workday rollout. This meant turning programme information into an intranet journey that staff could navigate and use.
The programme and technical teams delivered the system implementation. My contribution was communications and change enablement: organising the explanation, publishing the launch hub and making the next steps visible.
A launch hub built around first tasks.
I designed and published the Workday launch experience around employees’ immediate needs: a prominent action, a step-by-step checklist, tip sheets and training for HR colleagues, managers and the wider workforce.
Language options, video, FAQs and support contacts sat together. Different audiences needed different routes through the same change; a manager’s first task was not necessarily the same as an employee’s or an HR colleague’s.
One change, several information channels.
A launch page needs more than a set of links. People need enough context to understand which guidance applies to them, what has changed and who maintains the answer.
This connected the transformation work with a wider editorial responsibility: keeping the intranet useful as new systems and specialist platforms were introduced. Clear ownership and a practical route to the right information mattered alongside the launch itself.
The wider leadership role.
Workday communications were one part of my role. Running the intranet service, supervising the central publishing team, supporting 250+ focal points and improving governance, search and measurement are covered in the intranet leadership story.
